TALK: Water: The Sacred Purifier
Nandini Iyer (Religious Studies, UCSB)
Monday, March 8 / 4:00 PM
McCune Conference Room, 6020 HSSB
“Just as the sacred river’s roaring voice echoes all nature’s sounds, just so, if the devotee wishes to be cleansed by its waters, his heart must respond to the cries of all living beings.” Professor Emerita Nandini Iyer is a life-long student of the world’s mystical traditions and of the teachings of M.K. Gandhi. She has taught philosophy and religious studies at the University of Oxford, UC Santa Barbara, and Santa Barbara City College. She is one of the founders of the Institute of World Culture in Santa Barbara and has been involved with several schools committed to combating religious intolerance. Professor Iyer’s talk will be introduced by José Cabezón, Professor of Religious Studies, UCSB. http://www.ihc.ucsb.edu/water-the-sacred-purifier/
