The Institute of World Culture over its 40 year history has offered stimulating programs to challenge the mind and expand the heart. Seminars, forums, films and live performances have been guided by the ten aims of its Declaration of Interdependence.

The Institute is self-sustaining and supported by members. It is not funded by outside foundations and has no paid staff. Your support will allow the Institute to continue to bring you the wonderful programs you expect, as well as allow IWC to maintain the facilities. The main house at 1407 Chapala Street is a designated City Landmark Building, built in 1872 by Peter J. Barber. Currently, wood trim repairs and exterior painting are increasing our maintenance costs. We invite your continued participation and support in this exploration of an emerging world culture. With a donation of $250 or more, you will receive a gift of three IWC pamphlets.

The theme for 2017 is Fostering Human Fellowship Through Global Conversations and Creative Innovation. Examples will be presented on how people from all over the world are gathering to share their vision, their knowledge and their global innovations in science, environmental conservation, technology, conflict resolution, economic development, health care, education and the arts, such as music, literature and drama.

Each year we also request your suggestions for programs and speakers. For a printer-friendly Suggestion Form to to fill in click: (pdf format) or (Word format).
You may:
• email the form to
mail it to: Program Coordinator, Institute of World Culture, 1407 Chapala Street, Santa Barbara, CA 9311, or
• drop off your form when you attend the next IWC function.

With your help, we look forward to another year of thought-provoking, inspiring and uplifting programs.

On September 17, 2016, the Institute of World Culture benefited from the United Way's "Day of Caring". A number of enthusiastic and caring individuals helped with painting trim on the main building. Not only are we very grateful for their cheerful and dedicated help, but the general public in Santa Barbara, who value the City Landmark Building that houses the Institute of World Culture, are also grateful. Click here for more information on the building.
